AIG Pokhrel Resigns After SC Verdict

Additional Inspector General of Police Bishwaraj Pokhrel has resigned from his position today.

Pokhrel submitted his resignation at human resource department of police headquarters himself. Pokhrel had filed a writ petition at Supreme Court against goverment’s decision to appoint Dhiraj Pratap Singh as new Inspector General of Police. Pokhrel claimed that the government had appointed inferior personnel than him for the post.

After Supreme Court decided in favour of government’s decision, Pokhrel had two options; either to rejoin or resign. He was in leave after filing the writ but Pokhrel’s leave was also not approved by headquarters. Now, Pokhrel’s resignation will be presented to home ministry through IGP and cabinet of minister through home ministry. There is a provision to endorse AIG’s resignation from cabinet of ministers.

Even if Pokharel hadn’t resigned, his tenure would have been ended by Shrawan 20.
